Description In the age of data analysis, organizations' ability to extract information and intelligence out of data is not a luxury; it's a business enabler. Business intelligence is one critical aspect of the ever expanding data analysis ecosystem. Oracle Business Intelligence 12c is the latest offering from Oracle in the business intelligence domain.
In this course, Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, you'll learn a step-by-step approach on how to use OBI to enable business intelligence through data analysis. First, you'll discover that this an introductory course. Next, you'll explore the engine analytical capabilities. Finally, you'll learn about visualization capabilities. By the end of this course, you'll be able to continue your journey towards being an expert OBI developer.
Course Overview Hello everyone. My name is Mohamad Halabi and welcome to my course about Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, or OBI for short.
I'm a technical advisor and cloud architect at Oracle. OBI is a highly comprehensive and powerful enterprise level business intelligence platform. Dimensional modeling and analysis, interactive dashboards, mobile analytics, spatial visualizations, scorecard and strategy management, are all just some of the capabilities offered by OBI. Now before accusing me of being biased, you should know that I have also been a Microsoft MVP for the past 8 years, so I do have my fair share of experience in other platforms. And I can tell you as a fact that investing your time learning OBI is a very good idea.
This is an introductory course aimed at jumpstarting your journey learning OBI. And therefore, you will spend your majority of time learning about engine analytical capabilities. You will also have a look at OBI's visualization capabilities, which are very interesting, as of the 12c release covered in this course.
So buckle up and be ready to an intensive hands on course. By the end of the course, you will be ready to continue your journey towards being an expert OBI developer.
Introduction Hi, welcome to the first module where we will set the context, discuss target audience and prerequisites and set up our demo environment. So OBI is an enterprise level BI platform.
In this course we're going to tackle the core engine capability of dimensional modeling and analysis. Now OBI is not an enterprise data warehouse solution. OBI can connect to any relational data source, including a data warehouse, as well as other non-relational sources. OBI's dimensional modeling capability allows us to build a single, logical star scheme model, aggregating and analyzing data from all these sources. We will cover this part comprehensively in this course.
OBI is also not an OLAP solution. In fact, when there is a need for massive scale, multidimensional pre-calculations, or when you already have an available OLAP for use, OBI can in fact connect to OLAP sources and utilize it in its own analytics. In other words, we can build a calculation that combines data from relational, non-relational, and OLAP sources all at once.
OBI is also not a big data solution. But yet again, OBI can actually connect to a Hadoop cluster to retrieve data it needs for analysis. There are a couple of editions of OBI, but in this course we are concerning ourselves with OBI Enterprise Edition, which includes the full set of capabilities. The release covered in this course is the latest 12c release, which in particular contains a great deal of visualization enhancements.
Understanding the High-level Architecture Hi, welcome to this module about the high level architecture of OBI. You are watching Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. In this module we'll examine two of the core components of OBI and you will even have an early look into OBI in action.
Building Your First Analysis Hi, welcome to this module where we will build our first OBI analysis. You're watching Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. This is one of the most detailed modules, as you will be learning to use the Semantic Model for the first time.
You will learn how to connect to a physical data source, how to build a Logical Dimensional Model, and map this model to this physical source, and then how to create presentation views for users. Creating Measures Hi, welcome to this module about OBI measures. You are watching Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. In this module we pick up from where we stopped in the previous module.
We reload our rpd and create basic and calculated measures. Working with Logical Table Sources Hi, welcome to this module about logical table sources. You're watching Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. As we have seen in the previous modules, within the Semantic Model, tables of a logical dimension and model, map to physical tables of the physical layer. The mechanism by which this actually happens is called logical table sources.
In this module we're going to examine what these table sources are, how to manage them, and how to utilize them to map a single logical table to multiple physical tables. Creating Hierarchies Hi, welcome to this module about creating hierarchies. You're watching Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. A common and essential requirements in any business intelligence tool is the ability to create hierarchies and provide drill down capabilities. The way to do this in OBI is through logical dimensions, which we will examine in this module. Performance Comparison with Time Series Data Hi, welcome to this module about time series data.
You are watching Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. Besides joining our revenue fact table to the table aliases of the time dimension, so far we haven't really used time analysis. However, time analysis is one of the most powerful concepts in the BI domain. So in this module, we take a look at one of the time analysis features in OBI, and that is time series data. Touring Visualizations Hi, and welcome to the final module where we will talk about visualization. You're watching Getting Started with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. Broadly speaking, OBI capabilities are divided across analytical capabilities and visualization capabilities.

In this course so far we have spent all our time exploring the analytical capabilities of OBI and specifically using the semantic model. See as a beginner, just starting to learn OBI, that's the natural starting point. After you get your analysis ready, you can now move to explore the various OBI capabilities and examine the different ways you can visualize your analysis. Now visualization, and specifically in the 12c release, is very powerful in OBI. In this module we're going to very briefly tour the visualization features to give you an idea about what OBI offers in this regards.
